    • Paris St Germain have suggested that an English club is keen to sign Mikael Silvestre amid reports that Sunderland are closing on his signature.

The Manchester United defender had been expected to stay at Old Trafford to become entitled to a testimonial with Bordeaux admitting as much when they pursued his signature earlier in the close season.

However, the Frenchman appears to have decided that first-team football is more important with his chances further hampered by the emergence of Fabio as another option at left back and Jonny Evans returning from Sunderland.

It is Evans's unavailability that has led to Roy Keane tracking his former team-mate although Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has also displayed an interest.

Sunderland are reportedly in pole position to wrap up a £750,000 deal and PSG president Charles Villeneuve has conceded that the French capital club will find it difficult to land the 31-year-old.

"He is a little expensive and another English club also wants him," he told Le Monde. "It will be hard."
